I have a Size 8 head. If you're like me, regular one-size-fits-all baseball caps don't fit your head without looking wrong. If you're like me, your collection of motorcycle helmets over the years goes in a range of 2X all the way to 5X and you never get much choice in colour or style, you just have to settle for whatever fits your melon.
So in this season's effort to try not to look like The Great Gazoo, I tried a Crazy Al, No Peak Beanie. I selected size 2X based on their chart.
Fitment: right size for me, but slightly wrong shape. I tend toward more oval, this lid tends toward more round. It broke in a little bit but I couldn't lose the hotspots on my forehead and back of head. More on this below.
Style: this is what I've been after. Clean, minimal, classic & NO MUSHROOM-HEAD. Pictures attached.
Quality: it's what you'd expect. I'm fairly nit-picky about these things and there's nothing on this helmet that I'd knock. I'm satisfied.
Features: It's very light. The ratchet-buckle is a nice step up in functionality over your typical double-D ring at this price point. It makes getting your helmet on and off way quicker. The sweat-liner-padding stuff is nice, feels good.
Notes: if you usually do up your strap until it touches you but isn't quite tight-snug under your chin, you'll want to get used to doing it up tighter. This helmet will want to blow back off your forehead onto the back of your head. Do that strap up snug!
Overall: happy, happy. Once I got the fit right for me (by way of a vise, soft towels and about 5mm pressure on the sides for 24 hours... yes I know this is never to be recommended, but us Big-Oval-Headed guys have to do *something* to make a helmet fit) then it is my ideal helmet. Will definitely be coming back to replace mine with another Crazy Al helmet when this one times-out.
Keep the shiny side up, my fellow Melon-Heads.
